The Okaloosa County Clerk of Circuit Court and Comptroller Department of Inspector General (IG) serves to protect the integrity, accountability, and transparency of your local government. The IG investigates fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, misconduct, and other violations involving county and clerk employees, departments, programs, and contractors. Our goal is to provide meaningful, independent and objective investigations and audits to the citizens of Okaloosa County.
You Should Report to the IG if You Suspect:
- Fraud – Intentional deception for personal or financial gain (e.g., falsifying documents, stealing county or clerk funds)
- Waste – Careless or excessive use of county or clerk resources (e.g., unnecessary purchases, inefficiency costing taxpayers money)
- Abuse of Authority – Misuse of official position by county or clerk employees or assets belonging to the county or clerk offices for personal benefit
- Mismanagement – Grossly negligent administration or handling of county or clerk operations
- Contractor Violations – Vendors or contractors overbilling, not fulfilling obligations, or engaging in unethical conduct while working with the county
- Employee Misconduct – Serious rule violations, conflicts of interest, or unethical behavior
The IG Does Not Handle:
- Private business disputes
- Issues with federal or state agencies
- County Personnel matters like pay, promotions, or general workplace grievances (unless fraud or abuse is involved)
- Disagreements with laws or policies (those should go to your local commissioners or board)

The IG is here to help ensure your county government is honest, efficient, and working in your best interest. If you see something wrong, report it — your tip could make a big difference.
To assist in these efforts, we have established several methods for individuals or employees to report potential fraud, waste or abuse. All complaints received by the Department of Inspector General will be evaluated in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Our office is accredited by the Commission for Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) and is staffed with highly qualified investigators and auditors. Our office will conduct investigations in accordance with the professional standards established by the Association of Inspectors General and the CFA.
Whistle-Blowers Act
In accordance with Florida Statute, employees who report suspected wrongdoing or fraudulent activities are protected from retaliation by management or other employees. Persons reporting wrongdoing or fraudulent activities should provide sufficient details to facilitate an investigation.
